 PRE-INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS

treble-clef.png

Pre-Instrumental music classes for students 4-6 years of age are the foundation upon which instrumental classes are built at South Dublin Music.

These pre-instrumental classes are generally in group format and singing-based. We use child-centered songs to teach young students simple melodic patterns that also contain rhythmic structure suitable for the age group.

Music Notes

We don't discard these songs later; instead, we unpack their contents so that the young student becomes familiar, in an unconscious manner, with musical characteristics such as:

  • Form structure

  • Melodic contour

  • Rhythmic patterns

  • Pulse

  • Tempo (slow and fast)

  • Dynamic range

  • Emotional expression (happy and sad)

This material is essential for using when students progress to instrumental learning. The repertoire and song choice already learned in the pre-instrumental class is reused to instruct students how to begin their instrumental journey.
